Spice N Salt Tofu Salad

Hey there :)

Tofu is one of our favourite ingredients to work with! We always try to include tofu in our cooking, whether it's marinating something with tofu or straight up cooking with it! If we had it our way, most things would be tofu!

In this recipe, we use three kinds of chilies. Number one, green chilies because green chilies give a very natural taste of spice. Next we will be adding black pepper and dried red chillies because both chillies give that zing to the salad!

Movin' on! Now, as much as we LOVE tofu we have to agree that the ingredients itself is kind of - blank. So we need to add something else to give it some flavour. We experimented with adding peanuts to give it a crunch in our dish and guess what - it worked out marvelously! Not only does it taste good but peanuts actually are a healthy source of protein and fiber so it is always good to add them where ever you can!

You can add as many peanuts as you like or follow our amount below. If you are allergic to peanuts, don't worry, they are not required!

Spice N Salt Tofu Salad

1 block firm tofu

2 tbsp cornstarch

1/2 tsp red chili powder

A pinch of ground black pepper

3-4 dry red chilies

2-3 garlic cloves

2 green chilies

1 tsp salt

2 tbsp vegetable oil

1 tbsp red chili sauce (or adjust according to your taste)

1 tbsp sesame oil

1 medium-size onion, diced

1/2cup bell pepper, diced

1/2 tsp sugar

2 tbsp light soy sauce

1/4 tsp dark soy sauce

1/4 cup roasted peanuts

2 tbsp water and 1/4 tsp cornstarch (mix them)

2 tbsp spring onions, finely chopped

Drain the water from the tofu and cover the tofu with a kitchen towel or you can use a muslin cloth to cover it. Place some heavy pan on the covered tofu for at least 30 minutes so that extra water can be drained out.

Once the extra water drained out unwrapped the tofu and cut them in cubes.

Take a medium-size bowl and put tofu cubes in it. Sprinkle cornstarch,1/2 tsp salt, and red chili powder. Toss tofu cubes around the bowl so that tofu gets evenly coated with cornstarch and spices. Set bowl aside.

Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan, once the oil gets heated place tofu cubes and shallow fry them till the tofu cubes get golden brown.

Now take another deep pan and add sesame oil in it. Let it heat on medium flame, once the oil gets hot add garlic and green chilies (ponded) dry red chilies, now add onions saute them till they get a little soft, now add bell peppers saute them for few seconds. Add tofu in this, 1/2 tsp salt, dark soya sauce, light soy sauce, red chili sauce peanuts cornstarch and mix them well.

Add sugar and spring onions, mix well. You can adjust the seasoning according to your preferences. Coof the tofu for another 2-3 minutes. Turn off the heat. Tofu is ready to serve.
